Temple, TX (KAUZ) -

A Central Texas family is spending some time with their soldier after a three-year deployment.

Sergeant William Green has served as a Medical Laboratory Technician in Alaska for the last three years.

While he has had visits home they have only been for a few days at a time, but as of Sunday, he is now officially home for good.

To make the day even more special he surprised his four kiddos at their birthday party at Central Texas Tae Kwon Do in Temple.

"It was special. it really was,” said Sgt. Green. “They just didn't know, and it's just a surprise especially for the younger two.”

Sgt. Green said he has not been home for his kid’s birthdays since he left for Alaska.

He has been active duty in the United States Army since 2005 and has been through two deployments before this one.

Sgt. Green will now be joining the National Guard.
