Convenience stores proactive in security after string of robberies

The Wichita Falls Police Department is on high alert after the seventh reported armed robbery.

There have been seven armed robberies in Wichita Falls in the last month and most of them are happening at convenience stores.

Convenience store co-owner of Danny Foix Shell station and other convenience stores in Wichita Falls, Chris Kline is upping his security.

He said armed robberies are always a concern.

"Convenient stores get robbed all the time," said Kline.  "Occasionally you hear about a clerk getting killed or something like that.  They stick a gun in someone's face, they get a handful of cash, and they are gone."

Klein wanted to make sure his store is secure.

One way is with help from the police department, because Sargent Harold McClure wants to see these robberies stop.

The police department surveyed his stores to keep them up date with security.

One change Klein made was adding more lighting.

"It's a little bit brighter and friendlier for the store," said Klein.

He also set up several cameras in his stores in case anything happens.

The biggest help in security for him and his clerks is closing at night.

"A lot of people you get out in the middle of the night is not worth the businesses," said Klein.

He said the biggest thing he can teach his staff if put in that situation is to stay calm.

"They need to just comply with them," said Klein.  "Don't confront them," said Klein. "Let them leave.

The faster they're out of here the faster the faster you will be safe."

Police are still looking into these robberies and tell me they are looking at the possibility of them being connected.
