SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE (KAUZ) - Sheppard Air Force Base held a wreath-laying ceremony for National American Indian Heritage Month Thursday morning.
The ceremony honored the 20,000 Native Americans serving our country.
28 Native Americans have received the military's highest award the Medal of Honor.
Red River Intertribal Club President James Moore said he was honored to accept the wreath for all natives tribes.
"I'm so proud of our community coming together to do something like this," Tech Sgt. Pamela Hollabaugh said. "Team Sheppard and Red River Intertribal Club working with one and other to recognize our groups."
Comanche dancers performed at the Solid Rock Cafe. Informational packets on Native American history will be given to Sheppard Elementary school students.
