WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - Wichita Falls City Council is making changes to the Economic Development Corporation budget to include adding incentives to Sheppard Air Force Base for the Installation Main Gate Upgrade Project.
The City Council is applying for a $1,500,000 Development Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant (DEEAG) program to fund it.
That money will be used to make security improvements, increase the number of lanes to reduce traffic and make improvements to the stormwater drainage system.
If the DEEAG is approved by the Office of the Governor, then construction is set to begin next summer.
"There is a quite of few things going on that they're just trying to upgrade," Mayor Stephen Santellana said. "It's old and it's antiquated. I think this money is really going to help with fixing the problem that they have there in the North gate."
There is still no timeframe when the project will be completed if the grant is approved.
If the DEEAG grant is not approved, then only one-third of renovations to the main gate will be made a representative for the SAFB Main Gate Upgrade Project told City Council.
