WICHITA COUNTY, TX (KAUZ) - After months of construction, discussions, and disagreements, the Wichita County Sheriff's Office gun range is now finished. Sheriff's Deputies are now using the new facility.
It wasn't an easy project for Commissioners, but that makes its completion just that much sweeter.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Mark Beauchamp said he was at the range every day last week and said Sheriff's Deputies are taking advantage of it. He said everyone is happy with the final result.
"It is very functional, a very nice facility," Commissioner Beauchamp said. "It will be in with the rest of our law enforcement facility, all on one piece of property. We can't understate the value of that."
Commissioner Beauchamp said having all the law enforcement facilities on the same property is what excites him the most. He believes it will make everything much more convenient for deputies.
Commissioner Beauchamp said they still need to put up a fence around the gun range. They are waiting on bids for that part of the project and expect it to be completed by January.
That gun range took close to a year to complete. The final price tag will be just over $500,000.
