WICHITA COUNTY, TX (KAUZ) -

A project that has been on TxDOT's radar is now underway.

Demolition crews began tearing down the Rifle Range Bridge over U.S. 287 on Monday.

Drivers will no have to exit the freeway to pass the construction at Rifle Range Road.

Signs will direct you where to get back on.
"This is part of a three bridge project that we've been trying to get down for the last two years to replace these three bridges around (U.S.) 287. They get hit a lot because they were built lower than what the standard is now," TxDOT Public Information Officer Adele Lewis said.

TxDOT workers will be in the area all week long. Officials said the freeway will reopen as soon as possible and the bridge will take a year and two months to rebuild.
