WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) - This Wednesday Newschannel 6 along with Faith Mission are hosting a Turkey Drive.
We need Texoma's help to make sure those who don't have homes can at least have a Thanksgiving meal.
Those donations will benefit families at Faith Mission and will also feed those in need well past Thanksgiving.
Faith Mission serves up to 300 meals a day so our goal is to collect 200 frozen turkeys to help them cook this year's feast and more.
Steve Sparks, Faith Mission's CEO, said homelessness is something that's impacting Wichita Falls.
"We know for sure that there are more than a hundred homeless people either on the streets or staying in shelters every night," Sparks said.
As many will enjoy a delicious meal during the holidays, Sparks said those who don't have a place to call home usually turn to them and this year more women and children are walking through their doors.
"We want to be able to have enough turkeys during the holiday season so that we can provide that kind of festive meal that everyone is used to," Sparks said.
A meal that, Joseph Cotton, a Faith Mission client, said he's thankful for this holiday season.
"It helps out people like me that don't have a place to stay or eat or anything," Cotton said. "We can always come and have a good meal here."
However, Texoma's help is needed to ensure those meals keep coming.
"If they have any feelings for their community it would be good for them to donate whatever they can. Whether it be turkeys or money anything would help and it would be a good thing," Cotton said. "People like me could really use that kind of help."
Sparks said the community has always stepped up and helped but wants to encourage everyone to continue to do so especially during the holidays.
Faith Mission will also be at Walmart on Lawrence Rd. accepting monetary donations from 6 a.m to 6 p.m.
