IOWA PARK, TX (KAUZ) - The early signing period which started last week continued Monday out in Iowa Park.
Hawk baseball senior Justin Thornhill signed to play for the Hillcats of Rogers State University. He's a standout defensive catcher for the Hawks, known for his strong arm behind the plate, which helped him throw out a third of attempted base-stealers (15/45) last season.
He batted .259 with 10 runs batted in, getting on base at a .371 clip as a junior this past year.
Rogers State is currently in the Heartland Conference, but will join the Lone Star Conference in the fall of 2019, meaning Justin will get to play games not far from home, at schools like Tarleton State, Angelo State and West Texas A&M.
He said he's happy to get his decision and signing out of the way, so he can play relaxed in his senior year.
"It's pretty cool," Justin said Monday. "It's always been a dream just to go play college baseball, and now I can just set it aside and go and have a good year. We're supposed to be really good this year. I plan on having fun, and doing good, and trying to go as far as we can."
