ARCHER CITY, TX (KAUZ) -

Archer City volleyball is State Tournament-bound for the third time in four seasons!

The Lady Cats (27-13) defeated county rival Windthorst in five sets Saturday in the Region I-2A final in Snyder, returning to Garland where they were state finalists a year ago.

This time, they will face the Crawford Lady Pirates, who entered the regional tournament weekend as the #1 team in the state and hold a record of 44-7 on the season.

After losing 4 key seniors of last year's team, the Lady Cats struggled a bit early on defense but have come around recently and are playing their best volleyball of the season.

"The young girls have really, really stepped up this year," said senior middle blocker and outside hitter Lauren Castles. "I appreciate them so much in helping me get back to the state tournament. It's so awesome."

The Lady Cats will be underdogs Wednesday, just like they were last Friday when they swept #2 Sanford-Fritch. But they're ready to enjoy the experience, which was no given entering the playoffs.

"We're just going to be happy to be there," said head coach Krissa Johnson. "We're happy to be invited, and we earned that trip. And we're going to do what we can up there to represent Archer County, and who knows what's going to happen?"

"It's so special, and I wouldn't have wanted to do it with any other team," said senior setter Sierra Mooney. "I love these girls so much, and I'm so excited to compete at the state tournament."
