Midwestern State claimed its second outright Lone Star Conference championship running the table in league play on the way to its second perfect regular season this fall.

Count the league's coaches as less than impressed as MSU failed to claim a single special award as MSU had just as many first-team selections as fourth-place finishing Angelo State with five.

Runner-up Texas A&M-Commerce led the way with eight first-team picks, while third-place Eastern New Mexico had five.

Midwestern State boasted the league's top offense on the field eating up 519.3 yards per game to rank fourth in all of NCAA Division II. The Mustangs also led the LSC and were fourth nationally in scoring with 47 points per game.

For all of that, senior guard Islam Sbeih and junior center A.J. Roland earned first-team honors off of a line which permitted a national low 2.67 tackles for loss per game and 0.67 sacks per game.

Junior running back Adrian Seales was MSU's only other offensive first-team performer finishing the regular season as third in the league with 760 rushing yards.

Junior safety Josh Wydermyer was the lone first-team defensive performer for the Mustangs after leading the team with 67 tackles this season.

Senior long snapper Bobby Joe Nielsen gave the Mustangs five first-team picks.

Midwestern State's Bill Maskill was tabbed the conference's coach of the year for the fifth time during his career also earning the honor in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2015.

Harlon Hill candidate Layton Rabb, who has proven to be biggest difference maker in the league this season, was pushed to the second team. The Llano native posted four 300-yard passing performances this season including a school record 434 yards against Tarleton State before matching another program best with six touchdowns passes in last week's win at Eastern New Mexico.

Rabb passed for 2,610 yards connected at a 65.3 percent of his passes with 26 touchdowns to just four interceptions. He ranked 10th nationally in pass efficiency rating (169.4), 14th in passing yards per game (288.9) and 19th in passing yards per completion (14.05) this season.

Sophomore cornerback DaMarcus Wilson was also relegated to the second team despite leading the league in passed defended (1.6 per game) and was second with three interceptions.

Junior offensive linemen Kevin Fisher and John Rowell were joined by senior tight end Dorian Johnson (11 rec., 198 yards, 1 TD), senior wide receiver DeAndre Black (26 rec., 488 yards, 4 TDs) and junior running back Vincent Johnson (674 rushing yards, 16 TDs) on the offensive side of the ball.

Junior defensive Alec DiValerio (36 tackles, six for loss, four sacks) and junior safety Sir'Vell Ford (57 tackles) gave the Mustangs three second-team defensive selections.

Redshirt-freshman Caleb Brown, who proved to be one of the top frosh offensive linemen in Division II, was beat out for league freshman of the year honors by UT Permian Basin linebacker John O'Kelley.

Brown was one of four Mustangs to gain honorable mention joined by senior wide receiver D.J. Myers, senior linebacker Jacob Sherrill and senior punter Mitchell Henton.

RABB, SHERRILL EARN LSC ALL ACADEMIC HONORS

Midwestern State junior Layton Rabb and senior Jacob Sherrill were named to the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team Friday afternoon.

Rabb boasts a 3.76 grade-point average as an accounting major. He earned LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll status in each of his five semesters at MSU.

Sherrill maintains a 3.96 grade-point average majoring in respiratory care. The linebacker out of Burleson's Centennial High School was twice on the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll since transferring from Truman State.

West Texas A&M graduate offensive lineman Dillon Vaughan is the league's academic player of the year.
