Lawton runner training for Boston Marathon

LAWTON, OK(RNN Texoma) - A Lawton man is getting the opportunity to run in the Boston Marathon, and also raise money to benefit the people of Lawton.

Casey Hull was nominated by another Lawtonian, Linda Dempsey for this year's John Hancock Boston Marathon Invitational Program. Hull was one of the 12 names drawn from this nationwide program. He now has to raise a minimum of $5,000 for a charity of his choice. Hull chose to fundraiser for the YMCA in Lawton.

From running in the Spirit of Survival in 2010 to training for the 2018 Boston Marathon, Casey Hull says this is something he never thought he would do.

"It just led from one run to another," said Hull.

Hull has participated in many half marathons, full marathons and other races, but nothing like the Boston Marathon.

"Just to be able to experience it because it is such an elite race," said Hull. "There's elite runners that run it. Just to be able to go and participate is very humbling and honoring experience."

He has a very strict training program. He runs more than 6 miles a day, every day with a local group, Run Lawton.

"You pretty much have to run five days a week and I do run with our group and they're very encouraging," said Hull. "They all run with me at different times and they're helping me get there."

Hull is thankful this experience also will also raise money for a good cause and the money will stay local. He has a goal of raising at least $5,000 by the race on April 16th of 2018 that will go directly to the Lawton YMCA. He says your donations will go a long way.

"Help our local community," said Hull. "All of our residents will benefit that come to the YMCA and it just helps keep our community active."
