Comanche County fire burns home to the ground

CACHE, OK (RNN Texoma) - More than a week before Christmas, and a Comanche County family is without their home. A fire destroyed the home on Saturday night. The home was southeast of Cache. The mother of the Walka family works for Crosby Park Elementary, and Lawton Public Schools is asking for the community support to help them get back on their feet.

"They have nothing," said Dana Moore, Crosby Park Elementary principal. "I mean everything is gone."

Kathryn Walka works for Moore as teacher's assistant at the school.

Moore said she was told the family wasn't home when the fire started when the unexpected happened.

"They got a call from a neighbor saying don't hurry home, but it's already gone," said Moore

Officials said the call to 911 came in just after 9:30 p.m. Cache and Indiahoma fire department were first on the scene. When firefighters arrived, the house was gone with only the outside walls remaining. Because there was nothing more they could do, the house to continue to burn down. The Indiahoma Fire Chief ruled the cause as undetermined.

Moore said it's devastating for this to happen to the family especially before Christmas.

"The mom already talked to us and told us how she had already gotten all the presents," said Moore. "She even posted on Facebook earlier this week everything was wrapped and under the tree."

Red Cross accommodated the family last night and will continue for the next two nights.

Moore sends a message to the community.

"If anyone could give to help this family, it is the spirit of Christmas and the season of giving and this is a family that is definitely in need," said Moore.

If you would like to donate to help the family you can contact at Crosby Park Elementary at 580-353-7107. Donations can also be dropped off at the school Monday to Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
