Fire weather continues to be the weather headline. Fire weather warnings are in place, specifically a Red Flag Warning for Wichita, Archer, Baylor, Throckmorton, Wilbarger, Knox, Foard, Hardeman, Comanche, Cotton, Tillman, Jackson, and across West Texas and Oklahoma Counties.
A Red Flag Warning means we will see weather conditions that can lead to extreme fire behavior and will likely cause a fire to spread rapidly.
Those weather conditions are heat, wind, and relative humidity.
Today in Wichita Falls the high is 92 degrees. Winds will be sustained 20-30 mph with gusts 40-50 mph possible. The humidity will likely stay around 30%.
The conditions are worse in parts of west Texoma. Towns west of the line from Haskell to Altus will see highs in the upper 90s. Triple digits are possible. Haskell, Throckmorton, Baylor, Wilbarger, and Tillman Counties will see humidity values drop into the teens. While Knox, Foard, Hardeman, and Jackson Counties will be extremely dangerous with humidity values as low as 5%. Add these numbers to the extreme drought and you get historic wildfire weather.
