BOWIE,TX(RNN Texoma) -

Demolition of an auditorium in Bowie has been planned to possibly begin by May 11, according to the Bowie News.

The building located at 113 E. Tarrant in Bowie has towered over the city since 1927.

In February, the Bowie city council voted to demolish the building at a cost of $150,550 on a bid from JC Logan. The cost of asbestos abatement is expected to slightly increase that price.

Bowie Mayor Gaylynn Burris said the abatement process will begin Monday, April 23. She said the contractor hopes to be done by May 9. During that process, equipment will be moved into the site and the contractor expects to begin demolition by May 11.
