Business owner and military wife gives back to the community

WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - A local business owner and military wife is using her resources to give back to those in need in Wichita Falls.

Olivia Nickman is gathering clothing for students who attend Kate Burgess Elementary. She said they will need them because many of the kids wear their uniform clothes in the summer. This act of kindness is just one that Nickman is showing to those in need.

Nickman started her clothing store from her garage in Mississippi. She wanted to help parents get clothes for their children at an affordable price. For the military wife, opening a shop was a risk. When she, her husband, and three kids Jada, Amara, and Xzavier moved to Wichita Falls, it was a risk she was willing to take.

She opened Chicka Boom Resale Kids in one of Southwest Parkway's shopping center but outgrew it in about a year. Being a person that does not like to let anything go to waste, she opened an outlet store. The latter is where she focuses most of her community outreach.

Nickman said, "one use for someone else that they don't need any more is still a great need for somebody." So, all the items from the outlet store come either from overstock in the main location or come from donations. The prices are marked down to help parents save and encourage even more people to shop there. After all, the proceeds from the outlet will go to the local pregnancy center at the end of the year.

As the wife of a serviceman, the possibility of having to move is always there. However, Nickman said her passion for giving back will always be there, "loving on people and making them feel good and things like that will go wherever I go."
