WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) -

A Wichita Falls man is facing murder charges following an assault on Monday morning.

Officials with the WFPD said William David Starnes, 46, was served with a warrant for murder on Friday morning following an altercation that led to the death of William Glenn Stephens, 64, Thursday afternoon.

According to police, just before noon on Monday, Starnes struck Stephens in the head with a wood board, critically injuring him, after Stephens tried to intervene when he saw Starnes assaulting a 59-year-old woman.

The assault took place at a home in the 500 block of Burkburnett Road.

Stephens was rushed to United Regional where he later died from his injuries. This is the third murder of 2018 in Wichita Falls.

Starnes bond has been set at $500,000.
