WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) -

A Wichita Falls man is booked into the Wichita County Jail on Friday following an investigation that began in late January.

On January 29, 2018, officers were dispatched to a construction site in the 3800 block of Guinn Avenue in reference to a John Deere mini excavator theft.

The victim said the piece of equipment, which was valued at $32,000, has been stolen from behind an 18-wheeler is would be hidden behind at the site.

The victim provided a description of the excavator and the VIN number to detectives. That information was entered into the Texas Crime Information Center and the National Crime Information Center.

On April 3, 2018, officials with the Wichita County Sheriff's Office were recovering stolen items from a home in the 5100 block of Bahama and found the stolen mini excavator.

While speaking with deputies, Craig Kenton Gee, 33, said he bought the John Deere mini excavator from a man in Nocona in August of 2015.

Gee reportedly showed deputies a handwritten receipt for the purchase of the excavator on August 22, 2015, for $8,500.

Since the excavator had not been reported stolen until 2018, despite the claim from Gee that he purchased it in 2015, a warrant was issued for his arrest on April 26, 2018.

Gee was charged with Theft Over $30,000 Under $150,000. He is no longer in the Wichita Co. Jail.
