IOWA PARK, TX(RNN Texoma) - An Iowa Park couple is searching for answers for a disease that is causing their baby girl crippling pain.
Jaydi Beirne,7, has a rare condition where she feels horrific pain in her legs and her body breaks out in a rash.
Her parents, Johnny and Kristin Beirne, said it is so rare no doctor has been able to diagnose it yet.
Jaydi said her legs feel like they are being stabbed. The pain began when she was six months old and has not stopped since.
The parents said doctors first thought it was restless leg syndrome but physicians became concerned it continued as she got older.
"It's hard to see her still in so much and asking you for help and there's nothing that we can physically do to help her," Kristin said.
Jaydi's parents said the pain cripples her. She cannot do what she loves, she cannot dance, play or do anything a normal girl can do.
Her grandfather, Electra Police Chief Michael Dozier, said he is used to helping others but it is harder when it is a loved one.
"When it's your own grandchild or your own child, this is something different," Dozier said. "This has affected the entire family, friends of the family. It breaks your heart."
The parents are planning a trip to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota in June hoping they can finally learn what is wrong with their baby girl. The first initial appointments will cost $5,000 not including the trip members from all over Texoma are pitching in to help.
"The outpouring love for this family," Dozier said. "I don't know if we're deserving of this but it's appreciated."
The father said hopes his daughter will get the chance to live a normal life.
"Watching her [knowing] you can't do anything about it, we wish we could do something," Johnny said.
The Texoma community will hold a fundraiser Saturday, May 19, 11:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m at The Prestyn 211 S Yosemite.
Tickets will costs $12 in advance and $14 at the door. Several items will be raffled and the family said anyone that has something to donate for the raffle can bring it.
Cash donations can also be made at any First Bank using the account: Jaydi Beirne #4128591.
