BOWIE,TX(RNN Texoma) - The auditorium in downtown Bowie will be demolished on Friday.
Built in the 1920s the stage once housed shows, recitals, and even church services. The city council decided it was too expensive to keep running.
"When I was a young man in junior high school the basement was a youth center," City Manager, Bert Cunningham said. "They had pool tables and card tables and things like that and we used it to entertain kids on Friday and Saturday nights."
Bowie Police Department and City Hall are to close to the demolition. For safety reasons, it will be closed on Friday. They hope to be back in the building on Monday. The police department will temporarily be located in the Emergency Operations Center. Calls will be redirected to the county and they will alert the correct agency.
