UPDATE: DPS officially releases name of drowning victim in Montague County

WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) -

DPS officials have released more details in the drowning which happened Thursday morning in Montague County.

Troopers have released the name of the victim and identified him as 18-year-old Trent Walker.

According to officials. Walker and a friend went to the pond to fish on Thursday morning. The two went out into the water to get to a kayak when Walker got caught in moss.

His friend attempted to help but was unable to free him. The friend then called 911.

Diving teams from Wichita Falls were called to the scene to help search for Walker. They were able to find his body on Thursday afternoon and he was officially pronounced dead around 3:30.

The man's body was sent to Dallas for an autopsy.

Bowie ISD released a statement regarding the incident on their Facebook page.

A prayer vigil is being planned for Friday at 7:15 a.m. at the pavilion at Mose Johnson Lake.
