WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) -

The Wichita Falls Police Department and the District Attorney's office is investigating following a deadly shooting early Saturday morning.

Around 2:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to a home in the 4800 block of Lindale in reference to a burglary of a habitation.

Sgt. Harold McClure said when police arrived at the scene, a group of people were in the front yard of the home. As officers went inside the home, they found a man on the floor who has died from a gunshot wound.

The man was identified as James Averette, 30. Detectives spoke with witnesses and the person who shot Averette. Early reports indicate Averette entered the home, where he does not live, and was shot, according to police.

Officials said this shooting does not appear to be random and it is believed the people involved did know each other. No arrests have been made at this time.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
