IOWA PARK, TX(RNN Texoma) - In just a few days, kids will be splashing into the Iowa Park Pool and Spray Park, and residents like Audery Gorman are looking forward to getting a first look at the newly renovated park.
"I love swimming so with these new renovations, when I have a day off ill probably be doing that instead of going to the lakes," Gorman said.
With over $100,000 of 4B money, swimmers will see decking improvements.
These are upgrades that the Parks and Recreation Director, Jason Griffin said will help keep people safe.
"We had a material called rubber rock placed down," Griffin said. "It's non-slippery so it's very safe. It's very durable and stays a lot cooler than concrete. It stays about 20 degrees cooler and prohibits the growth of bacteria."
New diving boards are also part of the renovation, and their Spray Park features got a makeover, starting with their dinosaur.
"The color of the dinosaur is very unique, its very eye catching," Griffin said. "A lot of folks see our dinosaur and are like we're not sure if dinosaurs are blue and purple but it looks good from the street it kind of grows on you and is one of our prominent features that you can see from the highway."
This bright change is something that Gorman believes many will enjoy.
"I know my nieces love going in there for the little slides they have," Gorman said.
A team from Seguin, Texas came to refurbish all of their spray park features.
Griffin said all of them were renovated by hand. This is a project that took three professional artists two weeks to complete.
"They also put new palm tree fronds on the palm trees to ensure that they spray correctly and are enjoyed by all," Griffin said.
Iowa Park Pool and Spray Park will be celebrating their 10th Anniversary Saturday, May 19 with hot dogs, cake, and lemonade.
This free event is open to the public and will kick off at 3 p.m.
The pool will officially open its doors for the summer on May 26.
