WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) -

A new scam is targeting local businesses, according to the WFPD.

The scammers will call a business and pose as someone with the business' corporate office or say they are detectives of an investigating agency.

The scammers will convince the employee an investigation is being conducted into bad business practices or embezzlement at the hands of the owner of general manager.

According to WFPD, the scammers will then instruct the employee to take all the money from the register and leave the business.

The next step involves the employee going to a Walmart, CVS, United, etc... and the money is put on green dots cards or the like and then the employee is asked to send the scammers photos or tell them the numbers on the back of the card.

WFPD is encouraging business owners to speak with their employees about this ongoing scam and put procedures in place to avoid a financial loss due to this scam.

If you have any questions you can call the WFPD at 940-761-7792.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
