IOWA PARK, TX(RNN Texoma) -

A woman was arrested after law enforcement officials spent hours searching for her because they thought she walked into Lake Buffalo in Iowa Park.

Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Wichita County Sheriff's Office received a call from the Iowa Park Police Department about a check welfare call for a woman at the lake.

The woman's vehicle was found on the west side of the lake at the boat ramp, according to the WCSO. Footprints from the vehicle to the water's edge led deputies to believe she went into the water.

The sheriff's office deployed Humvee and ATVs to search and the Texas Game Wardens assisted in the search on the water. At the time, there was a heavy thunderstorm impacting search efforts.

Deputies were able to contact the woman who said she was somewhere around the lake and was lost. The search continued until around 2:30 a.m. when the WCSO discovered the woman was in Wichita Falls.

Deputies responded to a home on Van Buren and found Laura Mae Day, 31. Day was arrested for public intoxication and booked into jail. According to the WCSO, the incident is under investigation and more charges are pending.
