Experts talk about the importance of travel insurance

WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) -

Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner and a Wichita Falls travel agency recommends that people purchase travel insurance to make sure their trip expenses are covered.

Travel Consultant Glenn Jennings of Parkair Travel, Inc. said it is better to be safe than sorry, “Anything can happen. You can get sick, you can get hurt. If you don't have insurance, then you're just throwing your money away.”

Travel insurance covers trip cancellations due to injuries, sickness, weather or even jury duty.

Jennings said that not many people know about the options available. He said, “It covers you while you're on the trip up to a certain amount of money...Some of them you can cancel for any reason, some of the insurance it's only if it's medical.”

Most travel insurance averages around $100 but there are even more affordable options as well. Jennings said that vouchers are also available for up to a year after a trip is canceled, giving a traveler the chance to go again.

Jennings especially recommends travel insurance when a trip is headed to a place that might end up having bad weather. He feels the benefits outweigh the costs, “We've had people that [say] 'No I’m going no matter what.' Then something will happen, and they call and say, 'What am I going to lose?” – just about everything because they didn't get the insurance.”
