WICHITA COUNTY, Tx (RNN Texoma) -

We're learning more about a deadly accident on I-44 just north of East Road on Friday afternoon.

Department of Public Safety officials confirmed the woman killed in the accident is Shawn Marie Ramon, 30, of Wichita Falls.

Around 12:15 p.m. DPS officials said Ramon was traveling northbound on I-44 when it crossed the grass median and hit head-on with a black SUV and another white SUV that were traveling southbound on I-44.

Ramon was ejected from the vehicle. Five others involved in the collision were taken to the hospital. DPS is working to learn what caused Ramon to cross the median.

A Wichita Co. Commissioners Court official sent out a release following the news of Ramon's death,"Due to the tragic death of a Wichita County Tax Office employee due to a car accident, the Tax Office in Wichita Falls and the Tax Office Annex in Burkburnett will be closed the rest of the afternoon today, June 1, 2018."

Traffic along the southbound stretch of I-44 was closed and traffic was rerouted to the access road.

An earlier version of this story originally stated the white SUV was traveling northbound and crossed the grass median following information provided to News Channel 6 by DPS officials. As the investigation got underway the proper information was provided to us and we updated the story accordingly.
