WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - The Wichita Falls American Cancer Society held their 21st Annual Relay for Life event in hopes of raising funds for cancer research.
Cancer survivors along with their families and friends walk laps around McNeil Middle school's running track cheering each other on. The event lasts 12 hours and as volunteer and cancer fighter Jackie Bush said, "We go over night because cancer doesn't sleep so we don't either."
There are various themed laps that will take place. There will also me a memory lap for those that lost their battle to cancer.
Bush is an almost 16-year survivor. She and many others are grateful for those in Texoma showing their support. She said, "To have all these people in the community come out and help us raise funds is just unbelievable. It gives you hope. It gives you encouragement. As a survivor it lets you know you're loved and you're not in it alone."
The funds raised not only go towards cancer research, but also go to local services for cancer patients in Wichita County.
