WFPD releases name of driver killed in Sunday accident

WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - The Wichita Falls Police Department released the name of the man killed in a car accident on Sunday afternoon.

Michael Ray Smith, 43, died after his car crashed into a sign in the 1300 block of North Scott Avenue.

Monday would have been his 44th birthday.

Police said Smith was driving eastbound on North Scott when he swerved across the median and crashed into the sign in the parking lot of a business around 2:15 p.m.

Officers said witnesses told them Smith nearly hit a motorcyclist when he crossed all four lanes but the rider was able to get out of the way.

Smith died at the scene. His body has been sent for autopsy. The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
