Man arrested on multiple charges following chase

WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - A man is behind bars after leading police on a brief chase early Sunday morning.

Around 1:45 a.m. officers observed Francisco Rodriguez, 27, get out of the vehicle he was driving in the area of Longview Drive and Wrangler Drive. Officers knew Rodriguez had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Officers said Rodriguez walked up a driveway of a residence and attempted to enter a vehicle that was parked but was not able to.

Rodriguez got back into his SUV and quickly drove away, according to police.

A marked WFPD unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop when Rodriguez began to speed up to try and evade officers, according to police.

Rodriguez went south on Central Freeway and exited near the Travel Center and tried to continue east in the alley of North 8th Street but lost control and crashed into a telephone pole.

Rodriguez and a woman got out of the vehicle and took off running. Officers found Rodriguez hiding in a pile of trash but were unable to find the woman.

Rodriguez was found with a holster for a handgun. When officers began to search the vehicle they found the handgun that went into the holster found on

Rodriguez on the ground by the driver side door, according to police.

A record check showed the handgun had been stolen. Loaded magazines and two bags of drugs were found inside the SUV.

Rodriguez was charged with evading in a vehicle, evading on foot, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, theft of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, violation of court order and multiple warrants.
