GRAHAM, Tx (RNN Texoma) - After two long years of searching and raising money, the second portion of the Young County Veterans Memorial Wall is up outside the courthouse.
"We really had to hunt," The New Century Veterans Memorial Chairman, Reta McCallum said. "We put out the call for names, and we put names on Facebook."
A granite company based in Oklahoma arrived in Graham a little after nine Monday morning to install eight new panels.
It's a project that Linda Morris, one of the owners of the company said could take up all day to complete.
"The panels weigh about two thousand pounds a piece and it's going to take about an hour per panel to get installed," Morris said.
It was a balancing act that several people stopped by to witness.
"Since we've been standing here someone came up from California and they were able to look at their dad or granddads name on the original wall," Iraq Veteran, Dan De La Cruz said. "So that was kind of cool feeling to know that we're helping families of other veterans."
De La Cruz, who's also part of the memorial committee said he hopes the new wall will help people appreciate all of the sacrifices these veterans have made.
"It's easy for people to just tune out of the global war on terror stuff that we got going on now, but if you see somebody that you know that's tied to it and serving in it now or has served, you're a little more connected to the conflict," De La Cruz said.
This project was made possible thanks to the generosity of the community.
Most of the memorial wall will be blank because names will continue to be engraved every year.
If you know of any veterans that should be named on the wall you are asked to contact the nonprofit through their Facebook page @Young County New Century Veterans Memorial.
The big reveal is set for the 4th of July at 11 a.m. outside the courthouse.
