WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) -

TxDot has six new traffic cameras up and running in Wichita Falls. The 1-million-dollar update brings the total amount of traffic cameras in the city up to 15.

The cameras can rotate 360 degrees as well as zoom in and out. They are located on Highway 44 and interstates 287 and 82.

TxDot crews said the cameras also pick up a live feed of each highway, allowing them to stay updated on what is happening on the roads.

The Public Information Officer of the Wichita Falls District Adele Lewis stated, “The traffic cameras are not recording you. They're not deciding how fast you're going or if you're running a red light. They're strictly up there for us to be able to watch the traffic conditions and also for law enforcement to watch the traffic conditions. It helps us dispatch emergency crews that much quicker, especially if we know an issue is going on.”

Drivers can also go to TxDot.gov and view the cameras themselves. Once there, go to the Traffic Cams tab and click on Wichita Falls from the list of cities.
