Gov. Greg Abbott names MSU student regent

WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - A new student regent has been appointed at MSU.

Governor Greg Abbott appointed Leia De La Garza for a one-year term that began on June 1, 2018.

De La Garza is working towards a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. She is a senator for the Pre-Professional Club and vice president of the Omicron Theta chapter of Chi Omega.

De La Garza has received a Redwine Honors Scholarship, an Academic Merit Scholarship, Norwood Memorial Criminal Justice Scholarship, a Peer Mentor Scholarship, an A-Team Scholarship, and a Rising Latina Award.

She works in the admissions office and gives tours to prospective students and their families. As the new student regent, De La Garza will represent all students, both undergraduates, and graduates, for a one-year term on the Board of Regents, the university's governing board.
