WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - The Vernon College EMS program now has their own ambulance thanks to a donation from AMR Medical Transport.
The official key hand-off happened Thursday morning at Vernon College's Century City Center.
The ambulance will be used to train EMS students and to give them a real-world experience on how to move and handle a patient in an ambulance environment.
"Having the ambulance and being able to utilize this tool will be able to take the student and put them in the actual environment that they will be in whenever they are running calls," said Program Coordinator Cory Naya. "Get them use to the muscle memory of grabbing stuff off of the shelf and loading the stretcher with the patient on it and just get them familiar with being in that environment and it just makes them one step closer to being ready for the workforce whenever they graduate."
The late Dr. Gary Don Harkey and late Alejandro Garcia helped this dream turn into reality.
