CLAY COUNTY, Tx (RNN Texoma) - Some changes are coming to the SH-79 bridge across the Red River.
The highway contractor for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) will be installing temporary traffic lights to control vehicles as they cross the bridge for the next 45 days during construction of the new crossing between Texas and Oklahoma.
Only one lane of traffic will be allowed to cross the bridge at a time, so the signals will stop opposing traffic from crossing as northbound and southbound traffic takes turns on the bridge.
The signals will be active 24 hours a day.
The SH-79 replacement bridge project is being constructed by the state of Oklahoma. However, both Texas and Oklahoma are splitting the bill for the project.
