3,500 acres burned in Archer County

ARCHER COUNTY, TX (KAUZ) - Area fire departments fought at least 4 fires in Archer County Sunday.

According to the Texas Forest Service website, more than 3,500 acres burned Sunday night.

Smoke could be seen from surrounding counties including Wichita.

According to James Mellard, the Fire Chief with the Lake Kickapoo VFD, the call started as four roadside fires around 2 p.m. Sunday.

Texas Forest Service also assisted with the fires.

According to the Texas Forest Service website, one fire has burned 1,000 acres and is at 95 percent containment

A second fire has burned 1,350 acres and is at 95 percent containment.

A third fire has burned 200 acres and is at 95 percent containment.

The Coleman fire is at 1,000 Acres and is at 95 percent containment according to Texas Forest Service.
