WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - A large grass fire in Electra off FM 2384 burned an estimated 600 acres Monday.
Fire crews said a blown transformer ignited the fire that sparked just a day after another fire burned around 500 acres in the same spot.
A woman who lives across the street from where the fire started said the crews did a great job putting the fire out and keeping her home safe.
She added when it comes to protecting her property, there are some precautions she takes.
Her husband keeps bar ditches all around their property mowed and their land plowed. They also keep the grass watered.
Wichita Falls Assistant Fire Marshal Eddie Mawson said these are all great tips for homeowners to do, especially those who live in rural areas.
"That's where most of the fires are that get bigger and they start traveling pretty fast," he said, "They're just a house in the middle of a field or some trees out somewhere then they need to take those precautions."
Mawson said another tip is to clear out dead bushes and trees, always keep branches away from your roof, and make sure gutters are cleaned out.
Fire crews said it's also important to have an evacuation plan in place for your family and animals.
