WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - Wichita County Commissioners are one step closer to replacing an AC unit that unexpectedly went out in July.
On Monday commissioners passed a motion awarding a bid to replace it for just over $101,000.
Right now a temporary AC unit is sitting outside the courthouse to keep the jail in compliance, but they're hoping they can get rid of it in a couple weeks.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Mark Beauchamp said they were already looking at replacing the courthouses AC chillers before this one stopped working.
"We were in the process of going through all of our HVAC systems within the courthouse and courthouse annex," Commissioner Beauchamp said. "So this was kind of in the works but unfortunately we had to jump out ahead of the game and take on this project a little sooner than anticipated."
He said there's no exact timeline on when the new AC unit will be installed, but added it needs to happen as soon as possible to save the county from having to rent the temporary AC unit another month.
