Man charged with tampering with evidence in connection with Studio E shooting

Update concerning Studio E shooting

WICHITA FALLS, Tx (RNN Texoma) - A Wichita Falls man has been charged with Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence in connection with a deadly shooting at Studio E.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2018, officers were called to the club for a gunshots call.

The shooting took the life of Davonta Combs, 26, and injured three others, including Trayvon Strawn, 24, who has been charged with Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault in connection with the shooting.

Demetrion Combs, 32, has also been charged with one count of Aggravated Assault for this crime.

According to an arrest affidavit, Trevon Johnson, 19, dropped Strawn off at the United Regional Emergency Room after the shooting in Strawn's vehicle.

Strawn admitted to police he was in possession of an AR-15 .223 caliber rifle that he said he shot at the scene. Strawn was also shot during the incident and Johnson helped Strawn get up and into Strawn's vehicle.

Strawn said Johnson drove him to the hospital and while on the way, Strawn put the rifle in the back seat, according to the affidavit.

Strawn said he left the rifle and his cell phone in the vehicle when Johnson dropped him off to be treated for his gunshot wounds.

During the investigation, Johnson told police he helped Strawn leave the scene and took him to the hospital. Johnson said the rifle was in the back seat when they got to the hospital and when Johnson left the hospital after dropping Strawn off.

Johnson then said he drove to a person's apartment that he would not identify and then to his home in the 1500 block of Central Freeway but parked the vehicle a few houses down.

Johnson said, at that time, he moved the rifle from the backseat to the trunk of the vehicle. Later that evening, the vehicle was impounded by the WFPD.

On the same day, a search warrant was executed at Johnson's home on Central Freeway and Strawn's cell phone was found inside.

Police believe Johnson removed Strawn's cell phone from the vehicle and took it inside his home where it was later collected by WFPD.

According to the affidavit, police believe the cell phone could have evidence related to the shooting at Studio E and should be considered evidence in this criminal investigation.

A warrant for Trevon Johnson for Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence was issued on September 4, 2018.

Johnson was booked into the Wichita Co. Jail on Tuesday on that charge and a Possession of Marijuana charge.

At the time this story was published, a bond amount had not yet been set.
