WICHITA FALLS, TX (RNN Texoma) -
When we pick our game of the week, one of the things we look at is implication in the district and playoff race and this matchup between Nocona and Henrietta fits that to a tee.
Not only is it a rivalry game but both teams need the district win to get ahead in district 5-3A.
Because Holliday and Gunter are in the same district and are expected to make the playoffs, only two spots remain in the playoff race so every win counts.
Now, in no means is it the end of the road for the loser but it becomes an uphill battle for sure.
“I think its been a rivalry for the last fifty years," Nocona head coach brad Keck said. "It’s always a big game, even in years when it doesn’t mean very much. It’s a big game for Nocona, it’s a big game for Henrietta, so we want to treat it like that.”
“Well this is a playoff game," Henrietta senior running back Mason Marchman said. "This is big on seeding for if we are going to get there, like it depends on where we are going to be. It leads us to where we need to be.
"This is a big game.”
“It’s a big game," Henrietta junior quarterback Jonah Lyde said. "You know Nocona has changed a little bit, but we have too with losing some of our starters and they have lost some but we just got to work hard and get prepared for it.”
The rivalry kicks off this Friday at seven and Quinton Walter will have all the action on the blitz on six.
