WICHITA FALLS, TX (RNN Texoma) - A rain and snow mix hit the Texoma area early Thursday morning and left many of us waking up to a winter wonderland. Drivers may experience some slippery slush on bridges and overpasses.
The conditions have caused closures of Sheppard Air Force Base and Midwestern State University offices, which are operational during holiday breaks.
Heavily traveled roads may just be wet throughout the day but drivers should still exercise caution. The areas we are expecting to see impacted the most are Vernon, Wichita Falls and crossing the Red River into Oklahoma.
The snowfall and sleet is expected to end Thursday evening. Temperatures will climb above freezing on Friday morning. Until all the snow and ice melts drivers should exercise caution and travel should be avoided if at all possible, especially on Thursday.
The Wichita Falls Police Department responded to more than 70 vehicle crashes since Wednesday evening. Here at the station our vehicles are covered with ice and snow. We will be out braving the conditions to bring you the latest information about the weather.
