WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - It’s a $14 million project that’s been in the works for several years at the YMCA Bill Bartley Branch.
"We just needed new facilities to accommodate our programs," said Noel Filer, the mission advancement director for the YMCA. "By accommodating our programs we can better serve our kids, our families, and our coaches."
We've been following the progress and brought you an inside look when their new gymnastics center opened its doors in June 2018.
Now, thanks to the generosity of the community, Filer tells us the second part of phase one is underway.
"This project would not have been possible without generous donors," said Filer. "We have the best people in the world in Wichita Falls. They really have made it possible for this to happen."
On Friday, construction for the new double gymnasium and indoor soccer multi-purpose facility was in full swing.
Filer said even though the weather caused some delays she is excited to see things move along bringing them closer to the final phase of the YMCA capital project, which includes numerous renovations to their existing Bill Bartley Branch.
"Renovations in our final phase will include not only renovations to our fitness areas but also our child watch," said Filer.
Plus refurbish their locker rooms and administrative office and add a conference room.
“I hope when the kids come to these new facilities they learn something where they can be confident about themselves,” said Filer. “At the Y we try to offer many different options for youth so that they can explore something that they are good at, that they can feel good about themselves because confident kids make confident adults.”
Phase one is expected to be complete Spring 2020 with the final phase following.
