WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - A Burkburnett woman has been arrested again for attempting to use a forged check, according to police.
On Saturday evening, officers were called to the Walmart on Central Freeway in reference to a theft. The suspect was described as a woman with pink hair.
When police arrived, the suspect, identified as Brandi Wiest, 34, was trying to leave the store through the garden section. She was detained while officers began an investigation.
An employee told officers that Wiest had just attempted to buy $110 worth of items from the store using a blank check.
When the employee asked Wiest for a form of identification to verify the check belonged to her, she said her identification was in her vehicle and she began walking towards the garden section.
The employee handed the blank check over to investigators. It showed it belonged to a couple with an address in Rapid City, South Dakota.
A check of her criminal history showed Wiest had been arrested recently for allegedly passing fraudulent checks at a local business outside of the WFPD jurisdiction.
Detectives believed Wiest knew the check was forged without the owner’s consent and she attempted to defraud the store of its property by using the forged check.
Wiest was arrested and charged with Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information, a state jail felony. At the time this article was published, she was no longer in the Wichita Co. Jail.
