MSU investigates report of racists remarks in campus housing

WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - Officials at Midwestern State University are investigating an alleged racist act within the housing community.

According to a post on Facebook, “Time to go pick some cotton," was written on a dry erase board that belonged to a black student living in an on-campus apartment.

Public Information officials confirmed the university is looking into the matter after receiving a report of racists remarks within the housing community on Tuesday morning.

The Residence Life Office and Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities are working together to investigate the allegations.

"This morning Residence Life & Housing responded to a report of racist remarks within the housing community.

The Residence Life office is now working with the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities to investigate the allegations and determine appropriate actions based on the Code of Student Conduct and Residence Life & Housing Handbook.

The safety, security, and well-being of our students is of primary concern as we work to address the immediate issues of the targeted student.

The reported behavior runs counter to our MSU values of mutual respect, civility, cooperation, and social justice. All forms of discrimination will be addressed as we work to ensure an inclusive environment for all students."
