WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - Its been a year in the making, and now United Regional Health Care System in Wichita Falls is rolling out it's latest advancement.

On April 6, 2019 the hospital is transitioning to a new electronic health record called EPIC.

Hospital officials say it's the industry's highest regarded platform and is used by most of the country's top-ranked hospitals and medical schools..

President/CEO Phyllis Cowling says health care is changing, and they must change with it, adding a key benefit of Epic is that it will improve patient safety with the most up-to-date and accurate health information in one system.

"One of the great things about this system is it's integrated. Meaning, all of the different modules, whether it's lab, or pharmacy, or our clinics, our in-patient surgery, all that.

There all apart of the same system, as opposed to separate systems, that have to be connected. And that makes it smoother". said Cowling.

This will result in better continuity of care, both within and outside the walls of United Regional. "Epic allows other health care providers to see an identical view of the patient's health care record, no matter where the patient is receiving care," said Dr. Brett May, Physician Champion for the Epic Implementation.

With Epic, all patients have the opportunity to become active participants in their own care via the MyChart

application, accessible from a smartphone or the internet.

Epic is also the industry's most highly regarded platform, used by most

of the country's top-ranked hospitals and medical schools.

“Our patients, staff, physicians and community deserve the best,” said Cowling. “Epic is built on processes proven to elevate both health care and health throughout the community and we are excited to make it available in Wichita Falls.”
