BURKBURNETT, TX (TNN) - Burkburnett School Administrators say an increased police presence will continue in the wake of a threat made against the Burkburnett Middle School Thursday.
Students, staff and parents were greeted by additional Burkburnett Police Officers and Texas DPS Troopers when they arrived Friday morning.
Superintendent Tylor Chaplin told News Channel 6 the district will be monitored by an additional police officer through the remainder of the school year.
“For the rest of the year, we will be adding an additional contracted Police Officer, an off-duty Burkburnett officer to walk the halls at different campuses,” Chaplin said.
“We’ve always had a great relationship with the local police department, and we’ll be continuing that relationship into the future,” he added.
Chaplin says the investigation into the threat made over social media on Thursday is continuing.
“Texas Rangers are still investigating. They’re looking at the post and trying to locate where it was posted from, what computer posted it,” Chaplin said.
Chaplin said he hopes the person behind the post is located soon, saying it will bring a sense of relief to the community.
