PETROLIA, TX (TNN) - A new sign has been put up at Petrolia Elementary School that warns visitors that teachers are armed and will use force if necessary to protect students.
In June 2017, Petrolia CISD began looking at the possible change due to the amount of mass shootings the country was seeing.
As we reported last year, some requirements for teachers and staff to have weapons include a license to carry (LTC,) screening by a licensed psychologist and firearm expert and board approval.
The teachers must also complete two phases of training.
The sign posted outside the elementary school reads, “Attention: Please be aware that the staff at Petrolia CISD is armed and may use whatever force necessary to protect our students.”
The photo was posted on Facebook on Monday afternoon. The post has garnered several comments in support and more than 500 shares.
