WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - The Wichita Falls community came together Saturday to pay tribute to a local firefighter who passed away in 2012.
Kelly Crush died following a four year battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, an incurable disease of the nervous system.
Before his death, Crush was committed to finding a cure for ALS, traveling the country as a spokesman for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The Sixth Annual Kelly Crush Chili Cook-off, held today at P2 in downtown Wichita Falls is a chance for the community to come together and support our local firefighters and their families.
“This event is for the Kelly Crush Memorial Scholarship in honor of Kelly Crush,” Firefighter and event organizer Trey Schlegel said. “We started having a chili cook-off to raise funds for a scholarship fund for firefighter’s children.”
Schlegel says you can also make a donation to the memorial scholarship fund by visiting any Wichita Falls Fire Station.
