WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - Another holiday weekend is underway. Just like all holidays, there is an economic impact as everyone gets ready. Easter spending this year is expected to reach over $18 billion in the U.S.
For specialty stores like B Cocoa Artisan Chocolate and M. Lynne Designs, Easter means waves of customers looking for something to give to their families.
It is no surprise for shop owner Brooke Willis to see her chocolates flying off the shelves this time of year.
“We’ve been constantly replenishing, making chocolate bunnies, we did bunny tail truffles. If it’s Easter and we can make it in chocolate, we’ve pretty much done it,” she said.
Even their chocolate eggs have more chocolate surprises inside. But before tasty dessert, there is the feast.
Merrill Cain says shoppers have come into M. Lynne Designs looking for serving platters, and of course guests do not want to show up to dinner empty handed.
“A lot of people come in that are going to someone's house and they need a little hostess gift. So we've done a lot of kitchen towels and cute little decor pieces,” she said.
Both business owners said they enjoy creating unique holiday memories for those in their own community.
Cain said, “It’s such an honor that people think to come here verses a big box.”
Even out of state residents are turning to local stores to get something special.
Willis said, “We had a father call today. He called me from Colorado. He said, 'I don’t live there, but my daughter does’. He said, 'I want to get her a 24-piece box of chocolates, and maybe Easter treats. Could you write this sweet little card to her? I’m going to have her come pick it up’. I mean, those are the moments that just melt your heart when you’re in this business.”
