WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) - This weekend thousands of people will watch, hundreds of rodeo athletes will ride, and hundreds of animals will play their part in the Wichita Falls PRCA Rodeo.
But they will all need a solid foundation of dirt and it’s already on the floor.
“This is a really good top soil. It will pack real tight. It’s really good for the performance of the animals,” MPEC Ag Facility Manager, Tim Shafer said.
Hundreds of thousands of pounds of clean dirt is on the floor and it’s not an overnight job.
“This takes a while. They bring this in here and it takes 72 trucks to bring all this dirt in here. And there you’ve got the clean up afterwards,” Shafer said.
The dirt is being spread in to duty for the second time. It is nothing but dirt and a few weeds that have grown into it.
“They brought it in here for the ranch rodeo of last year. So, this is going to be the second time it’s been used in an agriculture performance. We want the safety. That’s why we brought in the new dirt for safety reasons for our rodeo performers and our bucking stock,” Shafer said.
The Wichita Falls PRCA Rodeo is this Friday and Saturday at the Kay Yeager Coliseum.
