Young Entrepreneurs prep for Lemonade Day at East Branch YMCA

Lemonade Day preview

WICHITA FALLS, TX (TNN) -Mark your calender’s and get ready to get out and support Wichita Falls youngest entrepreneurs on Lemonade Day this Saturday.

National Lemonade Day is this weekend, and the East Branch YMCA was working hard Tuesday night to help kids put the final touches on those one-of-a-kind Lemonade stands. Also, getting kids like Keyonna Wilson fired up for Saturday.

“The most exciting thing about it is creating my business plan. I’m sharing, spending, and saving,” said Wilson.

Which are important ideas organizers want students to learn in this Lemonade Day exercise. Mentors believe the kids get so much out of doing this.

“We have been working with them about creating a business plan, and profit and revenue. Lemonade is a really easy way to teach kids about business,” said Preston Sanderson, Midwestern State University student.

“We learned how to come up with our prices and come up with how much our cups cost and when they give us more money than we said how much do we give them,” said Wilson.

Coordinators for Lemonade Day in Wichita Falls say that more than 300 kids ranging from pre-K thru High School age have registered for the event.

The kids got placed with mentors from the Midwestern State University Dillard School of Business. The Mentors are happy to get a chance to pass down what they’re currently learning while being able to earn college credit.

“I’ve gotten a great chance to volunteer in the community that I haven’t gotten a chance to volunteer with before,” said Sanderson.

Volunteers like Sanderson say they have taught kids everything they need to know and are hoping to sit back and let kids be the young bosses they are.

“Hopefully I'll just be there in case we need more lemonade mix and go to the store and bring it back and help whatever way I can,” said Sanderson.

Event coordinators said some students will be setting up shop on Sheppard Air Force Base on Wednesday. After all the lemonade is sold on Saturday a ceremony will be held at the River Bend Nature Center where awards like Falls Favorite will be handed out.
